Evolution is merciless. Its Darwins survival of the fittest happening in real time, every day, on every ride. BMC spent years developing and refining the Teamelite platform, and theyre still proud of the work theyve done. It is still ridden every day by BMC riders and engineers. Meanwhile, back at the lab, BMC is running simulations to see if they can top this iteration of the BMC Teamelite 02. They havent yet. Its an awesome race bike, and figuring out a way to increase the awesomeness will take more time still. Until that day comes, BMC will still offer the same BMC Teamelite 02, just with updated color schemes, and component choices that reflect the best of whats available at the time. When youre looking for a balanced, efficient hardtail that offers bump-damping for the rear end, youll be ecstatic riding this Teamelite 02.
The BMC Teamelite02 is the Teamelite01 simplified. That is, it takes the same geometry, the same tube shapes, and most of the same carbon, with only one change. The MTT damper is taken off. The result is a frame that weighs only 70g more than the Teamelite01, 1150g, and provides a ride that matches the efficiency with a more efficient cash outlay. Cool trick.
BMC likes balance and versatility. Theyre assuming you probably have only one bike, and that bike needs to be able to handle a huge variety of conditions. Their home is mountainous, so theyre expecting slow, grinding ascents, and supersonic descents. As a result, the bike is efficient, so all your power goes into turning the rear wheel, and it is comfortable, so you have control over rough terrain.
BMC likes big wheels. They roll better. The advantage is both on smooth roads and rocky runs. And their BWC, Big Wheel Concept, is such that the short chainstays, 429mm, tuck the wheel up underneath the rider, which adds snap and agility.
The frame is more vertically compliant than the previous iteration, thanks to the new shaping of the seat and chain stays, and flattened top tube. Here, BMC applied lessons learned on the SLR01 road bike platform along with a 12 x142mm thru-axle and BB92 bottom bracket standard to achieve rock-like rigidity in the lateral plane, with plenty of give in the vertical. BMC is always looking for increased efficiency, and delivers.
That efficiency can also be found in the front end. The taper for the steerer is 1 1/8 to 1 . You have the slender diameter at the top for the ease of finding stems. The fat diameter at the bottom is to resist the torsional forces that the fork deals with.
Conversion is something BMC likes to offer. The cable runs are internal through the frame, and theyve been redesigned according to BMCs DTI, Dual Transmission Integration concept. Yes, this bike comes with a cable-actuated rear derailleur, but the cable for the front derailleur can easily be installed, and both can be pulled for electronic shifting if and when you have the desire to go that way.
BMC supplies the frame with seat clamp, BMC seatpost, as well as an integrated chain catcher and anti-chainsuck plate, to better protect your precious carbon from the errant drop and stuck chain. The rear brake is mounted via their natural-born postmount, which is designed for 140mm rotors, but can easily be set up for 160mm.
The BMC Teamelite02 is a cross-country machine bred to expand the definition of hardtail.
